Tours, Tours, Tours!

Summer Tour Highlights
(there are MANY more, but, here's a few highlights to get you alll excited!)

First, we've got the astonishingly gorgeous Hilary Duff on tour, visiting 11 cities in Canada promoting her new album, Dignity.
(Robbie, myself and a few friends will be 4th row at the Centre Bell, dancin' and singin' all night long. This is one show we most certainly cannot miss. It's Hil's first stop on her tour, and we'll have plenty of pictures to show you after the fabulous event!)

also, The White Stripes are busting down doors in Canada, and most concerts sold out after the first few minutes that tickets were available. We know who's excited for the stripes. CANADA, woopwoop. :D
(The show in Cape Breton sold out in 3 minutes, as well the show in Halifax, NS, sold out just shortly after. It's good to see the fan base for the stripes is still going strong, we know these shows are gonna be a hit this summer!)

Daft Punk is totally visiting Montreal, PQ and Mississauga, ON this summer as well. There are many more tour dates in Europe and the States, but they didn't forget about Canada! It's good to see they're showing some love for us here!

Gwen Stefani is currently on tour (with special guests Lady SOV, Akon and a few others I believe) and has visited multiple Canadian cities, and has a quite a few left to go. Miss Stefani is still going strong, and the response from her tour is quite strong as well. Starting in May (i think.. :P) and going right into October, she's quite the trooper!

(on a side note, Akon's recent behaviour is NOT something that i'm sure Gwen really wants people remembering about her show. Guess who regrets inviting Akon along for the ride? :P (to explain in case you haven't heard; after a fan threw something on stage at a recent concert, Akon got him brought up onto stage and FLUNG the poor boy into the crowd! UMMM, who does that? NOT COOL!)

What's Hot?
Hilary Duff - With Love (Fragrance Line)
Now, the fragrance isn't exactly brand spakin' new, but I feel like it deserves some attention. This fragrance includes notes of mangosteen fruit, exotic spices, chai latte, mangosteen blossom, cocobolo wood, balsam, incense, amber milk and amber musk. It's a very warm, welcoming scent, that I feel I could personally wear with confidence being a man, and i'm positive many women (and men) would agree if they gave it a try.
This fragrance comes in a spray/rollerball form, as well as in a body lotion that is equally as wonderful. The lotion makes the skin feel incredibly soft, as well leaves a lasting scent that'll take you throughout the entire day without fading at all.

Who's Hot?
Mika and his album "Life In Cartoon Motion"
Mika is a Lebanon-born, London-based singer who has captivated the hearts of many. His infectious pop-fused songs are beyond catchy and bring you along for the ride, regardless if you're interested or not. In some cases, music that is head-bop inducing and fun, is normally regarded as being talentless and over-produced, but Mika is talented, and the world knows it. His lyrics are fun, but intelligent, his voice is unique and his songs just make you feel like a million bucks. He's a huge hit in Europe, and his sucess is reaching Canada and the States at an alarming rate. His hits "Grace Kelly" and "Love Today" are both from his album "Life in Cartoon Motion" and they're a complete blast. I recommend you don't miss out on this gem of an album, nor this talented, and cute-as-a-button singer-songwriter who will instantly win your heart over, I guarantee.

[and if he doesn't, the cover art and insert will amaze you, with it's colorful designs, interesting character models and wacky out-of-this-world patterns that are one hell of a feast for the eyes.]


and now we move onto who isn't hot.
LINDSAY LOHAN.
and you know why she isn't hot?
cause her music career has gone down the shitter. and to be completely honest, it never really went anywhere in the first place. She was a great actress in Freaky Friday, Mean Girls and a few others, but now she's starting to get invloved in new movies, that are GUARANTEED to destroy any and all respect she's gained in the past. AKA, a new movie called " I Know Who Killed Me". Looks awesome, eh? I bet it's gonna be a huge BLOCKBUSTER. She plays a stripper in the movie, big stretch, eh? I'm really dissapointed with the direction that Lindsay in headed in, she used to be a really good actress and role model and now, I just don't see things going her way any time soon.
Just to let you know, Lindsay, you're totally not hot anymore. kthnxbye.

"Nobody believes me when I tell em' that you're outta your mind!" Duff chants in “Stranger”, the opening track of her third studio album “Dignity”. I'll start off by saying that I am a Hilary fan, and have been since the beginning. I was one of the few boys who faithfully sang along to her fluffernutter-pop songs, and danced around in his room (and shower) screaming "Whyyy not, take a crazy chance! Why not, do a crazy dance?" Why, you're asking, do I have such a soft spot for Hilary Duff? It's simple. She was a cute, loveable, pop princess who I and many others just loved to love. Friends ridiculed and teased me, but I didn't care, I was always at HMV, on the release date, BUYING the new Hilary Duff album, goddamnit!

I will admit, Hilary isn't a powerhouse, nor does she have the vocal stylings of Nelly, Mariah or Mandy. Her songs, in the beginning, were never written by her, but by people who were paid to make her sound like a million bucks. Same rule of thumb goes for the second album. The third release, "Most Wanted", which was a “greatest hits” album that came out WAY too early (considering all her best songs are just coming about NOW), included a few new songs as well as the old fan favorites. Her music was catchy, but it wasn't personal. It was fun to sing-along to, but most listeners couldn't really relate.

Now, FINALLY, we're on to talk about “Dignity”. Hilary has grown up, and it shows. She’s blossomed and flourished as a woman and an artist, and I think she's finally grown into herself. She looks beautiful on the cover of “Dignity”. She's also looking fantastic in interviews, magazines and everywhere else this beauty is popping up. Her glowing radiance is undeniable, and she's come a long way since her Lizzie McGuire days. Along with this new, healthy look, comes a WHOLE new flavor of sound. Hilary has tapped the electro-pop dance vibe, introducing fans to a side of her unlike any they've seen before. Listening to the album; “With Love”, "Gypsy Woman”, "Stranger” and "Play with Fire” are just the kind of songs I think she should be performing. They’re not vocally demanding to the point where she's straining herself, they’re just right. Her style of music has a fun, catchy vibe to it, but she still brings along maturity with this new sound and it’s perfect for the car, the clubs and wherever else you want to bring it. Hilary has also grown by showing she can write her own lyrics and music. She wrote/co-wrote every song on the album, except for "Outside of You", which was left in the hands of Pink and Chantal Kreviazuk.

This album is extremely personal, preaching about Hollywood’s "shit-for-brains" superstars, family crisis and break-up's BUT it also brings about the importance of positivity, love, and enjoying life's joyous moments. This album is like a beautiful healthy relationship, that suddenly turns into a train wreck, and what goes with dealing and moving on from it.

In conclusion, Hilary has hit a great spot in her music career. It's the first album she's released, that has something for everyone. The vocals are a little weak in certain songs, but she shines brilliantly in others. The lyrics show true emotion, as well as heartfelt beauty and depth. She's still got a long way to go, but this album is proof she's finally headed somewhere, and that’s “straight for the top”.
